AT&T versus Verizon: Misleading Advertising

November 17, 2009 | advertising law

In case you missed the AT&T v. Verizon drama, AT&T filed sued against Verizon Wireless for their “map for that” commercial because they feel it is misleading.  AT&T says Verizon ads use large areas of white space in maps to show that AT&T 3g customers are not covered in vast areas of the U.S.  They say that AT&T customers can use their phones outside these 3g areas.

Verizon seems to  have nailed this one with their public response: “AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon’s ‘There’s A Map For That’ advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon’s ads are true and the truth hurts.”  You have to love true competition.

AT&T have filed an opposed motion for a temporary restraining order pulling that advertisement.  Nonetheless, the ad is still hosted on You Tube.  See below and judge for yourself:

Update: AT&T dropped the lawsuit. Surprise, surprise.
